The Next Best Thing to a Futon Memory Foam Mattress

I used to have a Futon, but it did not have a memory foam mattress. I wish it would have. I might have kept it longer. I did like the convenience of the Futon. I was a single mom and could not afford a big place. I used the Futon in the downstairs living room as it was designed for a couch and my bed at night.

The old mattress was the worst thing about my futon. A memory foam mattress was not heard of yet, much less a futon memory foam mattress.

With all the talk about how getting a good night’s sleep can promote a healthier lifestyle, and how the right mattress can improve sleeping habits, I decided to check into the memory foam mattress. That is when I found out they do not make memory foam mattresses for futons.

When a friend of mine mentioned getting a new mattress, I was able to suggest he buy a memory foam mattress. He said he couldn’t because he had a futon. I said, “Guess what? They make futon memory foam mattress pads.” He acted surprised, so I took it that he had not heard of them before. Well, I had to tell him the truth about it. It is a memory foam mattress pad and you can use it on a futon mattress.

The memory foam mattress pad is not as good as getting the whole mattress, but then it is not as expensive either. I was told if you buy the 2-inch thickness that, it would be enough to experience the benefits of the memory foam. That is if you are of average weight. They don’t even recommend this for someone over 250 lbs. The greater the weight distribution, the greater density required. For the average weight person, to use one of 3 or 4-inch thickness would give a sinking in kind of feeling. If you like that kind of feeling when you sleep I guess that would be the way to go. I prefer to sleep on a mattress, not in one.

Anyway, my friend decided to go with the 2 inch thickness, “Futon memory foam mattress pad” (we called it that anyway) and he really seems to enjoy it. He does sleep better and says the extra restful sleep has improved his disposition. He no longer feels tired when it’s time to get up in the morning. He says when it is time to buy a real bed; he will definitely go with a memory foam mattress.

The only drawback I have heard about; and my friend says he does not feel it so much with the mattress pad; is that with the memory foam mattress, it does take awhile for the foam to change its shape when you decide to turn over or change positions. It really does conform to your body shape and stay there to give you a cradle like feeling. However, I guess if you are comfortable during your sleep, you won’t be tossing, and turning about trying to get comfortable. Makes sense to me!
